1998 Lexus LX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know EZ Car Keyz is not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths follow a pattern: low price on the phone, unmarked vehicle, technician who can't name the company, and a bill that triples once they're on-site. EZ Car Keyz has over 100,000 followers across YouTube and TikTok where you can watch this exact work being done on Lexus vehicles and others. You get a firm price before I arrive. I show up in a marked vehicle. The price does not change at the door.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original on my 1998 Lexus LX?

Yes. The 1998 LX uses a transponder turn-key, so the replacement gets cut to your vehicle and the transponder gets enrolled to the immobilizer. That covers everything the original key does: starts the car, operates the locks mechanically, and communicates with the vehicle security system. Before I leave, the key gets tested in the ignition and at the door. If something is off, I find it on-site, not after the fact.

Q: I have a working key but I want a spare. Do you need to do anything special to add a second key to the 1998 LX?

Adding a spare while you still have a working key is the easier version of this job. The transponder in the new key blank needs to be enrolled to the vehicle, and having a working key on hand simplifies that process. Owners on forums have kicked themselves for waiting until the one key they had broke or got lost, because all-keys-lost is a longer and more involved job.

Q: My 1998 LX starts and drives fine but the key warning light stays on. Is that a key or immobilizer problem?

If the car starts and runs, the transponder is being read correctly. A warning light that stays on while the car runs normally is usually a separate circuit issue, not a failed transponder enrollment. Could be a sensor, a wiring fault, or a stored fault code in the vehicle security system that needs to be cleared. Worth having it scanned before assuming the key itself is the cause.

1998 Lexus LX Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A couple came out of an event near Hope Ranch on a Saturday evening and their 1998 Lexus LX was not going anywhere. The key had broken at the head, the blade was still in the door lock, and the spare was sitting on a kitchen counter back home.

They called me expecting to wait until Monday. I was twelve minutes away.

The LX from this era takes a specific key blank, and I had it in the van. Cut it on-site to match their door lock, then enrolled the transponder using my programmer right there in the parking lot. The car started on the first turn.

The dealer conversation came up on its own. They had already been quoted a long wait and a number that made them hesitate. They drove home that night for a fraction of what they were expecting to pay. When you carry the right stock and the right tools, a Saturday night call is no different from a Tuesday morning one.
