Got a call from a guy near the Oxnard Skate Park whose 2012 Lexus LX 570 had been sitting for two days. His only smart key had taken a swim in a cooler full of ice water at a weekend thing, and by Sunday evening the dash was throwing "Key Not Detected" every time he hit the start button.
He tried the backup move, holding the dead fob right against the push-to-start ring. Nothing. The water had gotten to the board inside the HYQ14AAB and shorted something on the 271451-0140 circuit. The CR1632 was corroded already.
I cracked open the fob on his tailgate so he could see it. Green crud on the battery terminals and moisture under the chip. That one was done.
Programmed a new HYQ14AAB using my diagnostic setup through the OBD port, registered it to the smart ECU, and cut a fresh emergency insert blade decoded from his door lock. Three clean starts, tested all four buttons, walked every door handle for the touch-to-unlock and the lock sensor on the back of the handle. Then I stood about 30 feet out to check range.
He said the dealer in Thousand Oaks quoted him a wait of over a week plus a tow. I had him driving in under an hour, right there in Oxnard, for a fraction of what they wanted.
