2025 Lexus LX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Called out to Esplanade Shopping Center in Oxnard for a 2025 LX that wouldn't recognize either smart key. Owner tried new batteries in both fobs, still nothing.
The dash kept flashing "Key Not Detected" even with the fob right on the start button. Both HYQ14FLC fobs looked perfect, CR2032 batteries tested at 3.1V. But the car acted like they didn't exist. Owner mentioned his teenager borrowed the car the day before.
Connected my Smart Pro to the OBD port and pulled codes. Found B279A stored in the certification ECU. That's the "smart key registration cleared" code that pops up when someone accidentally triggers the reset sequence. Happens more than you'd think on these newer Lexus models.
Re-registered both fobs through the smart system menu. The LX has that extra step where you hold each fob near the start button during registration. About 12 minutes total, both keys back online. Tested all functions: touch unlock on all four doors, remote start, walk-away lock. Everything worked like it should.
The dealer would have wanted both keys, the car, and probably would have ordered new fobs anyway. This was just a registration issue, fixed right there in the parking lot for way less than they'd charge.
