2016 Lexus LX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy out in Pleasant Valley Fields in Oxnard. He had a 2016 LX 570 sitting in his driveway with a smart key that would unlock the doors but would not start the truck. Push the button, dash just says "Key not detected" and nothing happens.
Turns out he had already been through it with another locksmith. One of those cheap-ad outfits. That tech programmed the fob to the body module but never completed the full immobilizer registration through the smart key ECU, which on the J200-platform LX lives behind the lower dash on the driver side. Half the handshake means the key talks to the doors but the engine computer does not trust it. Classic shortcut.
I pulled up with the Smart Pro, connected to the OBD-II port, and ran the full Lexus security reset. The H-8A transponder needs a proper AES handshake with the immobilizer before the ECU will release the starter relay. Once the 16-minute seed-key countdown cleared, the fob registered clean. All four buttons, push-to-start, and the steering column unlock.
He stood there with his arms crossed the whole time, watching. When the V8 turned over he just nodded once, slow, like he was forgiving the truck for the last two days.
Came out to a fraction of what the dealer in Thousand Oaks had quoted him for the same job, and he never had to leave his driveway.
