Got a call from over near Lemonwood Park in Oxnard. A woman had one working smart key left for her 2014 LX 570 and it had taken a swim in a water bottle at the bottom of her bag. The fob buttons were sluggish, the push-to-start was hit or miss, and the driver door touch unlock had stopped responding entirely. She was down to using the emergency blade just to get in.
When I got there, I popped her old fob open on the hood. The board inside was corroded around two of the battery contact pads. CR1632 was reading 1.9 volts. That fob was done.
I decoded her door lock, cut a fresh emergency insert blade, then connected my programmer to the OBD port under the dash. On these 2014 LX models the smart key ECU uses a seed-key handshake tied to the 128-bit AES transponder protocol. I pulled the security data, calculated the response, and registered the new HYQ14AAB. The old waterlogged fob got wiped from the system during the same process.
Then the part I actually care about. I walked the parking area testing remote lock, unlock, and panic from about 30 feet in three directions. Checked the hatch release. Did three consecutive push-to-starts with pauses between each one. Tested the driver handle touch-lock and touch-unlock.
She watched me walk back and forth pressing buttons and said it looked like I was arguing with the car. Maybe. But every function worked, and she drove off with a key she could trust.
