2014 Lexus LX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman over in the Wilson neighborhood of Oxnard. She was parked outside her house, the fob in her hand, and the LX was not responding to anything. Push-button start gave her a key-not-detected warning. Door handles were not waking up. She said she had already tried a new battery and it made no difference.
When I pulled up, she handed me the fob and I opened it right there on the hood of my van. The CR1632 she had put in was the right cell, but the tray clip had a slight outward bow on it, probably from the old battery being pried out instead of lifted. The new cell was sitting on a tilt, barely making contact. I straightened the clip, seated the battery correctly, and tested the fob before I even mentioned anything else.
Touch unlock on the driver handle came back immediately. She pressed the start button and the LX fired up without hesitation.
That was the quick version, but I still did the full walk. Every button, range check across the driveway, three consecutive starts, both door handles. When you have a smart key system on a vehicle like this, you do not hand it back after one good start and drive away. You confirm the whole system is behaving.
She had already called the dealer before she called me. They were ready to schedule her for a full smart key replacement. She saved a good chunk by calling a mobile locksmith first.
