Out in Ormond Beach, Oxnard, a guy flagged me down about his 2017 Lexus LX 570. He had already paid another locksmith for a replacement smart key, part number 89904-30A30, FCC ID HYQ14FBA. The engine would crank for about two seconds and die. Classic incomplete registration. The other tech told him the smart key ECU was fried and left.
The ECU was fine. What happened was the previous locksmith skipped the full H-8A seed/key calculation and timed write sequence. The fob paired temporarily but never committed to permanent memory in the smart key computer. So the immobilizer saw a half-registered transponder and killed fuel injection right after crank.
I used a TOY43 Lishi on the emergency blade to verify the cut matched the door cylinder. Then I connected through OBD, cleared the botched registration, and ran a clean smart key learn with the full security timer. The H-8A protocol has a forced wait period during the seed calculation. You cannot rush it. If you do, you get exactly what this guy got.
Three consecutive start tests, all clean. I showed him the confirmation screen on the IM608 so he could see the key ID written and stored.
He had already paid someone else for a job that was never finished. This time it was done right, on site, for a good chunk less than Lexus of Oxnard would have quoted.
