Lincoln's immobilizer system is the reason your key costs more than a house key. Every Lincoln with Intelligent Access has an encrypted transponder chip in the fob that communicates with the body control module every time you press the start button. If the chip answers with the right code, the engine starts. If not, the system kills fuel and ignition. That's why you can't just copy a Lincoln key at the hardware store.
