2018 Fiat 500x Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She was parked near the WIC office in Downtown IB, in one of those lots where you feel like everyone is watching if you look like you're having car trouble. She wasn't having car trouble exactly. She just needed a spare for her 2018 Fiat 500x and had already learned one hard lesson about who she let touch her car.
Before she called me, she told me she'd looked up my BSIS license number on the state website. Made sure it was active. Made sure the company name matched. Her last locksmith had handed her a receipt with no license number, no company name, and a phone number that went nowhere. She only found out he wasn't licensed after the job was done.
That stuck with me, because she wasn't being difficult. She was just being careful. She had a kid in the back seat and a car she depended on, and she wasn't going to hand it off to another ghost.
I pulled up in the van, set up next to her 500x, and walked her through what I was doing. Programming the second key on these uses the diagnostic port and requires communicating with the vehicle's immobilizer to register the new fob. That process needs real equipment and a legitimate access path. The workaround versions some unlicensed guys use can leave the system in a state where it throws errors or behaves inconsistently later. I do it the right way, which means it works and stays working.
The job took about thirty minutes. She watched the whole thing, which I prefer. At the end she had a working spare, tested through every function, and a receipt with a real license number and a real phone number on it.
She saved a good chunk compared to the dealer's phone quote. That part barely came up. What mattered to her was the piece of paper she could actually verify.
