2019 Fiat 500x
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2019 Fiat 500x Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a rideshare driver out in De Luz, near the coin-op laundry. He had already been through it once.

Some outfit he found through a low-bid Google ad had taken his money, done something to his 2019 Fiat 500x's key system, and left him with a fob that would wake the doors but wouldn't get him past push-button start. He was doing rideshare pickups and drop-offs with a car he had to manually unlock and then sit there hoping it would start.

First thing he asked me was how to verify I was actually licensed before he handed over more money. That's a fair ask after what he went through. I gave him my BSIS license number on the phone. He pulled up the state lookup while we were still talking, confirmed it, and we moved forward. He appreciated that I didn't get weird about it.

When I got to the vehicle, I connected to the OBD port and pulled the pairing status on the immobilizer. The previous attempt had enrolled the fob halfway. The RF side took, but the transponder handshake for ignition authorization hadn't completed. The vehicle security system was seeing the fob as a known device for door entry but rejecting it at start. Classic half-job.

I cleared the partial enrollment, ran a clean full pairing sequence, and walked every function. All four buttons. Door lock and unlock. The start button. Each one confirmed on site before I closed my kit.

He asked what the dealer would have charged to fix the mess the first guy left. I told him it wouldn't have been cheap, and he'd probably have waited a few days for an appointment on top of it. He shook his head and said he just wanted to get back on the road. That's the whole job.
