2017 Porsche Macan Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call at 6:30 in the morning from a pilot staging out of a private lot near the Beyer Blvd Corridor in San Ysidro. He had a 2017 Porsche Macan, a preflight check starting in under an hour, and a fob that was doing absolutely nothing. No unlock, no response, no way into the car.
He'd had the main battery replaced about a week earlier at a quick shop. Nobody told him to keep the system powered during the swap, and nobody warned him what can happen to the key registration afterward. He didn't know any of that yet. He just knew he was standing in a parking lot in the dark watching his morning fall apart.
I was there in 25 minutes. The fob battery was dead, so I handled that first. But getting inside with no response from the car meant working the door mechanically, which I did without touching the paint or the weather seal.
Once I was in and connected through the OBD port, the picture got clearer. The immobilizer had dropped the fob from its known-key list after the battery swap. Fresh CR2032 in the fob was necessary but not enough on its own. I re-registered the key to the vehicle's security system through the diagnostic connection, cycled through all five buttons, tested the door handles, and confirmed the car started clean.
He was pulling out of that lot by 7:15. He mentioned what the dealer had quoted him for key work once before. I didn't ask what that charter flight was worth. Didn't need to.
