A retired airline captain at the waterfront brunch spot near Santee Lakes on a Sunday morning told me he'd already been burned by another locksmith. He paid full price for a 2018 Porsche Macan smart key that never programmed correctly. The car would crank but the immobilizer killed the engine after two seconds. Porsche requires the PIN and security codes to be calculated from the immobilizer data and written to the smart key in the correct encrypted format. I connected through OBD with my IM608. I cleared the failed key data from the previous attempt, read fresh KESSY data, computed the correct codes, and wrote a clean key file to a new fob. His smart key, FCC ID , had all 3 buttons working plus clean push-to-start with no fuel cutoff. I showed him the confirmation on my screen so he could see it was fully learned this time.
He paid me $95. Dealer charges $200 for the same work. He'd already paid the first locksmith too, which I couldn't undo. But I could make sure the job was done correctly.
