2018 Porsche Macan
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know I'm not dealing with a scam locksmith?

Three things to check before anyone touches the car: ask for the license number, get a firm written price for your specific vehicle before work starts, and confirm the company name so you can look them up. With Porsches, the price point attracts both serious shops and people who will quote low on the phone and change the number at the door. We give you a real price on the call and it does not change when we arrive.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

For a mechanical key replacement on the 2018 Macan, the job is cutting the key blade correctly to your vehicle's lock profile. I test it in the door lock and the ignition before I leave. If the engine starts and runs normally, you're done. If it starts and immediately stalls, that points to an anti-theft component that needs separate attention - I diagnose that on site rather than leaving you guessing.

Q: I only have one key for my 2018 Macan. Is it worth getting a spare cut now, before I lose it?

Yes, and the math is simple. Getting a spare cut while you still have the original is faster and cheaper than an all-keys-lost situation later. When you have the original in hand, I can decode it directly and cut a match. Lose the last key and the job gets more involved - decoding has to come from the lock itself, which adds time. Macan owners on forums mention this regret more than almost anything else.

Q: My 2018 Macan key turns in the ignition but the engine starts and immediately stalls. Is that a key problem?

Not the cut. If the blade is turning, the mechanical side is fine. A start-then-stall on a Macan points to the vehicle security system not recognizing the key's anti-theft element. That's a separate diagnosis from the cut itself, and it's something I handle on site. Don't let anyone tell you a new cut will fix a stall condition - those are different systems.

2018 Porsche Macan Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman near Santee Lakes on a Tuesday morning. She'd lost her only key to her 2018 Macan and had a full afternoon of obligations she couldn't push.

She'd already called the dealer. The soonest they could see her was Thursday, and that assumed they had what they needed on hand. Two days without that car wasn't going to work for her schedule.

I met her in the lot. No drama. I decoded the lock on site and cut a replacement key to the vehicle. She stood nearby watching, which I don't mind at all - on a Porsche, you want to see the work happen.

Before I left, I tested it through every lock: driver door, passenger door, and the ignition. Everything turned cleanly, and the engine came up and stayed running.

She saved a good chunk compared to the dealer route, and more importantly, she didn't lose two days. The dealer price and timeline were both factors, but the bigger thing was Tuesday afternoon - she had somewhere to be.

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Porsche vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, which is the state body that regulates automotive locksmiths. We carry full liability insurance. On a vehicle at this price point, you want to confirm both before anyone picks up a tool. Ask any locksmith for their license number before they start - a legitimate one will give it to you without hesitation.
