2009 Saturn Aura
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2009 Saturn Aura Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in the Live Oak Park Area of Fallbrook, I got a call from a guy who had been sitting on his driveway for about two hours before he found me. His only key to his 2009 Saturn Aura had snapped off at the bow, the plastic head, leaving just the blade in his hand. The car was locked, key was useless, and he had nowhere to be except stuck.

He had already called the dealer. They told him a few business days minimum because they needed to order to VIN and fit him into the service schedule. He did not have a few business days. He had that afternoon.

I pulled up in the van, got into the car, and decoded the lock to get the key cut right. Then it was OBD port, diagnostic tool, full all-keys-lost procedure on the immobilizer. The Aura's system needs to be told that a new key is the authorized one, especially when there's nothing to reference, no working key in the system at all. That step takes a few minutes and is not optional.

Cut, programmed, tested in the ignition, engine running. Start to finish, about 40 minutes on his driveway.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and he did not lose a day waiting for parts to arrive. That's the whole job.
