2010 Saturn Aura
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2010 Saturn Aura Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Downtown National City flagged me down -- not literally, but close. He called from a parking lot off National City Boulevard on a Tuesday afternoon, said his Aura would crank but die every time he tried to leave for work.

He'd already been through the usual suspects in his head: bad gas, maybe a fuel pump going out, something with the battery. He'd jumped it once just to rule that out. Still died.

When I pulled up, I had him try it while I watched. It fired right up, ran for about a second and a half, then cut out clean. No sputtering, no hesitation. Just on, then off. That pattern is almost never mechanical.

I asked about the key. Turns out he'd had a spare cut at a hardware store a few months back after losing one of his originals. That spare was the key in his hand. The blade was fine -- it turned the cylinder no problem -- but the chip inside was never programmed to the vehicle. It was effectively a blank.

I had the right blank and my programming equipment with me. Cut the replacement blade to match his lock, ran the transponder programming on-site, verified the immobilizer accepted it. Started right up, idled clean, drove it around the block himself before I packed up.

The whole thing took about twenty-five minutes. He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait of a few days just to get an appointment, plus more than he wanted to spend. That part came up almost as an aside -- he was more relieved to just have his car back.
