2009 Saturn SKY Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy out in the Richland area of San Marcos. He had a 2009 Saturn SKY and one key to his name.
That key had snapped at the base of the blade - not at the ignition, thank goodness, but in his hand while he was unlocking the door. He still had both pieces and the car was sitting in his driveway, so at least I wasn't working a lockout.
He'd already called the dealer. Saturn as a brand was gone by this point, so he was talking to a GM dealer. They told him they could look into it, but the wait and the logistics of it all made him hesitant. He found me instead.
I came out to the driveway. The SKY is a small two-seat roadster, low to the ground, and working on it always gets a little attention from neighbors. I decoded the blade from his broken key, cut a fresh one to spec, and programmed the transponder chip through the OBD port to sync with the immobilizer.
First start attempt, it fired right up. Let it idle for a minute, shut it off, started it twice more to confirm the programming was solid and not just a fluke. It was clean.
He mentioned the dealer quote and I told him what I charged. He said something like "that's it?" and I told him yeah, that's it. The whole job was done in his driveway before lunch.
