On the smart key models, that means a fob housing with 3 buttons on the face, a CR2032 battery inside powering the wireless communication, and an emergency HU66 blade tucked inside for backup entry. The car detects this fob through proximity antennas in the doors and cabin. Without it, the engine will not start.

She paid 257 for the shell swap and battery. The dealer wanted 482 to replace the entire fob when only the plastic was broken.
