A visiting attorney staying near the Santa Barbara Museum of Art area of Santa Barbara called me one evening. Her only key for a 2015 Q7 had stopped working after she tried swapping the battery herself.

Then I plugged in through OBD to confirm the immobilizer status on the instrument cluster, verified the Megamos 48 transponder was still registered, and cycled the ignition a few times to make sure no fault codes were lingering. Twenty minutes, done at the curb, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted and without the two-day wait she could not afford.
