Got a call from Marina West Park in Oxnard, late afternoon. An attorney visiting from out of town, staying at a hotel nearby, with a dead 2008 Q7 key. She had tried swapping the battery herself. Wrong size went in, got forced, and the contact tabs inside the 4F0 837 220 housing bent inward. After that, nothing. One contact was folded flat against the board and the other had a hairline crack in the solder joint where it meets the PCB. Straightened the first, reflowed the second, seated a fresh CR2032 correctly.
Then I connected through OBD to verify her immobilizer status. The Megamos 48 chip read clean, no faults stored in the instrument cluster, the key was still registered. I tested all three remote buttons, cycled the flip blade lock and unlock, and confirmed the passive transponder start twice.
She stood there watching the dash like she expected a warning light. Nothing came on. That was the whole point.
