A driver at a highway rest stop near Central Avenue downtown area had his key go stiff and nearly snap in the ignition of his 1999 Cadillac Eldorado. The blade was visibly worn and he could feel it catching on the wafers. He was afraid to force it one more time. Another locksmith quoted him over the phone for a full ignition cylinder replacement at over $500.
I used my HU100 Lishi to decode the lock from the door cylinder where the wafers were still clean. It reads each wafer position without touching or damaging them, which gave me the exact cut depths for a new blade. I cut a fresh key from the decode and programmed the transponder chip through OBD. His smart key, FCC ID KOBUT1BT, just needed a new blade with the correct chip. The old ignition wafers were worn but not failed.
No drilling and no cylinder replacement. His total was 111. The other locksmith's plan would have been 232 or more with a new cylinder and keys. His original ignition works fine with a properly cut new blade.
