I got a call from a guy at the rec fields off Riverford Road in Winter Gardens, Lakeside. He had his EV6 in the lot and was holding a fob he had already paid for at a dealer. The dealer had programmed nothing, cut nothing, and sent him home with a part and a shrug.

I pulled up, verified ownership, connected to the OBD port, retrieved the PIN through the immobilizer system, and ran the key learn sequence. The EV6 does require diagnostic equipment for this. There is no ignition-turn trick, no onboard add-a-key sequence. The fob does not pair itself.
Once the programming finished I did not hand it over and leave. I walked the perimeter of the car pressing the lock button. Walked back pressing unlock. Checked the door handles. Ran the start sequence three times. Confirmed the key-not-detected warning was gone from the cluster and stayed gone. Then I put some distance between me and the car and tested range.
He watched the whole thing. Said he expected me to hand it back and drive off. I told him the five minutes of testing is where you find out if something is still wrong before I leave your parking lot, not after.
The dealer quote he had gotten was a significant jump over what I charged. He said the part that bothered him most was that the dealer had his car for two hours and handed him an unprogrammed fob anyway.
