Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2023 Kia EV6 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She was a night shift ICU nurse, parked near the Lemon Grove side of the Spring Valley border, and she'd done her homework before calling me. She told me she'd looked up my license number on the BSIS site before she ever dialed.

Her last locksmith had handed her a receipt with no company name on it, and when she tried to call that number a week later it was already disconnected. She wasn't doing that again.

She needed a spare fob for her 2023 EV6. One working key, no backup, and she'd been putting it off for months the way you put off things that feel like they can wait. Night shifts have a way of reminding you they can't.

I pulled up to her in Lemon Grove and got to work. The EV6's immobilizer requires a PIN-based access path through the OBD port, and I used the correct security data channel to pull that PIN by VIN before touching anything else. That's not a workaround. That's the right way. When you skip that step or use a bypass, you can end up with fault codes sitting in the system or keys that appear to work until they don't.

New fob paired, tested against the start button, doors confirmed, then I walked through the digital key app setup question she had. She hadn't activated it yet. Five minutes of answering that, and she left with a working spare and a backup she actually understood.

The dealer had quoted her a number that made her pause. She paid a fraction of that. But honestly, the part that mattered to her was that I showed up, had the credentials, and didn't leave her guessing.
