2004 Kia Spectra Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in the Viejas Area, I got a call from a guy who'd been at one of the overlooks off the grade when his key snapped in the door lock. Not in the ignition, not in his hand. In the lock cylinder, blade broken clean, half inside the barrel.
He'd already called another locksmith who told him the cylinder had to be drilled out. New cylinder, re-keying, the whole thing. He was looking at a painful bill and a long wait for parts.
I pulled up and extracted the broken fragment from the cylinder using a pick-out tool, working carefully so I didn't disturb the wafer positions inside. Once the fragment was out, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer. That gave me the cut depths I needed to produce a working replacement blade without touching the ignition or needing the original key at all.
Cut the new key blade on site, checked it in the door, checked it in the ignition. Then ran the programming procedure through the OBD port to sync the transponder chip so the immobilizer would recognize it. Tested the remote functions after that.
The cylinder looked exactly the same as when I arrived. No drill marks, no scratches, nothing replaced. He saved a good chunk compared to what the other quote would have run, and he didn't lose an afternoon waiting on parts to be ordered.
Destructive entry is a last resort. On a car like this, it almost never needs to come to that.
