An independent mechanic at his own shop in Otay Mesa had been fighting his 2018 Volkswagen Atlas ignition for weeks. He could fix transmissions but ignition wafers are a locksmith specialty. Then I decoded the lock, replaced the worn wafers, and cut a fresh key matched to the repaired cylinder. His flip remote, FCC ID , paired right back up. I showed him the old wafers so he could see the wear.
Total was $95. Ignition turns smooth, key slides in clean. Even a mechanic called a locksmith for this one because ignition internals are a different skill set.
