A driver on the shoulder of a coastal highway near Stow Grove Park had his key snap in the ignition of his 2001 BMW M5. Half the blade was stuck in the cylinder and half was in his hand. Another locksmith told him the ignition would need to be drilled and replaced. On a BMW, that's a $700 repair before you even get a new key. He called me for a second opinion.
I used my HU58 Lishi to extract the broken fragment from the cylinder without scratching the wafer surfaces inside. Once it was out, I decoded the lock from the wafer readings, cut a fresh blade, and programmed the transponder. His CAS3 key, FCC ID LX8FZV, was a 3-button fob. The new blade turned the ignition on the first try.
No drilling and no cylinder replacement. Total was 185. The other locksmith's plan would have run 395 or more. His original BMW lock works with the new key exactly as it did before.
