Guy was out near Ellwood Mesa Open Space in Goleta, jacket hanging on the back of his chair at a brewery patio. Somebody walked off with it. Keys, wallet, phone, gone. He borrowed a phone, called the police, then his wife, then me.
His 2000 BMW M5 was sitting in the lot with zero keys. The dealer told his wife four to five business days, the car towed in, and a full EWS reprogram since the stolen key could still start the engine. Quote was steep enough that she kept looking.
I got there within the hour. All-keys-lost on an E39 M5 means I need to talk to the EWS3 module directly. I pulled the ISN (Individual Status Number) from the MSS52 DME, synced the EWS3 through the diagnostic port with my IM608, cleared every old key slot, and registered two fresh PCF7935 transponder keys from scratch. Decoded the HU58 lock, cut both blades on site. The stolen key is electronically dead now. Once the EWS memory is wiped, that old transponder is just a chunk of plastic.
He drove his M5 home that night before his wife even got there to pick him up. Two working keys, remote buttons tested, engine verified. The whole thing took about 40 minutes in the parking lot.
Dealer wanted his car for nearly a week. He lost an evening.
