Got a call from the Isla Vista area in Goleta. Guy lost his only key to a 2003 BMW M5 somewhere along the beach cliff trail near campus. Spent close to 40 minutes retracing his steps before he gave up and called me.
His M5 was sitting in the lot, locked, no spare anywhere. I told him I could be out that afternoon.
First thing, I used my HU92 Lishi to pick the door and decode every wafer position on the lock. That gives me the blade cut without needing an original. Then I moved to the OBD port. On the E39, the immobilizer is EWS3, not the later CAS modules, so the process is a little different. I read the EWS3 data, pulled the ISN from the MS S62 DME, calculated a new key slot, and wrote the ID44 transponder to sync with his VIN.
The LX8FZV remote head key, part number 6955750, three buttons, fresh CR2032 inside. I cut the blade, programmed the fob, and handed it over.
He turned the ignition and the S62 V8 fired on the first try. Just stood there a second listening to it idle, like he forgot what that sounded like after an hour of thinking his car was a paperweight.
Lock decode to engine running, about an hour. A dealer would have meant a tow and a multi-day wait for way more money.
