2017 Honda HR-V Smart key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Do you need to tow your 2017 Honda HR-V to the dealer? Probably not. For most Honda models from the mid-2000s through the late 2010s, I handle all-keys-lost right at the car.
An overnight security guard in Montecito had his only key die at home late at night. His HR-V was sitting in the townhouse garage with a push-to-start system and no fob that the car would recognize. He assumed a tow was inevitable and had already started planning his week around not having a car. I told him to stay home and that I'd come to him.
I connected my Smart Pro to the OBD port and ran the Honda smart key AKL procedure, which clears the old key data and learns new fobs to the car's IMMO module. His smart key, FCC ID KR5V1X, was a 4-button proximity fob with a laser emergency blade inside. I programmed it in his garage at 11pm. He seemed pretty surprised it could all be done right there.
His total was about 238. The dealer would have been 429 plus the tow. There are a small number of very new Honda platforms where the immobilizer is locked to Honda's online system and my tools don't support AKL yet, and those do have to go to the dealer. But for the vast majority of Hondas on the road, 2005 through about 2022, I do all-keys-lost on-site every week. If your model is one of the rare exceptions, I'll tell you straight up instead of wasting your time.
