2020 Honda HR-V Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy parked in the lot off South Oxnard Boulevard, right in the middle of the Downtown Oxnard area, on a Tuesday afternoon. His 2020 HR-V EX-L. He'd lost his only key and had already called the Honda dealer before he called me. They told him to tow it in, that all-keys-lost on a smart key system couldn't be done in a parking lot.
He wasn't sure whether to believe that, so he looked around and found me.
When I pulled up he was leaning against the passenger door, registration already in hand. I verified the VIN against his ID, popped open the OBD port under the dash, and connected the diagnostic tool. All-keys-lost on this system involves clearing the existing key memory and re-registering from scratch, so the tool walks through a timed sequence. You can't rush it.
About 30 minutes total. New fob, emergency blade cut to the vehicle, everything tested: lock, unlock, push-button start, and the blade in the door cylinder as a backup.
He asked what the dealer would have charged on top of the tow. I told him not to think about it. He laughed and drove off.
