2022 Honda HR-V
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2022 Honda HR-V Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy over near Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard had been nursing his 2022 HR-V key for about three weeks.

The remote functions had gotten flaky, range was down to about a foot, and some mornings the key-not-detected warning would flash before the car finally recognized it. He figured the transponder was dying and had already called the Honda dealer, who told him to bring it in and plan for a new key, programming fees, and a wait time of a few days for the part to arrive.

He found me before he made the appointment.

I got there and the first thing I checked was the CR1616 in the fob. It tested low, not completely dead, which is exactly the kind of reading that causes ghost problems. The transponder in the head still worked, the car still started fine, but the remote circuit was running on fumes. Replaced the battery, confirmed the correct seating, ran through all four buttons, tested range from across the parking lot.

Everything worked. The key-not-detected warning was gone. He had a fully functioning remote head key again.

He had almost paid for a new key and a programming appointment for a worn-out CR1616. He mentioned what the dealer quoted him. I told him what he owed me. He laughed.

That is most of this job, honestly. Getting there before someone replaces something that did not need replacing.
