2023 Honda HR-V Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
College Park job last week. Guy's smart key took a swim in his protein shake at the gym. Still worked, sort of. Started fine, but the buttons were sticky and the range dropped to about two feet.
I met him at his apartment complex. Popped the fob open on my tailgate and found strawberry protein powder gumming up the board. The immobilizer chip still read fine, but the remote PCB was toast. Cleaned what I could, but the tactile switches were done.
Cut him a new KR5TP-4 using his door lock for the decode. The 2023 HR-V needs the 16-digit immobilizer code for all-keys-lost, but adding a key just takes the diagnostic port and about 15 minutes. Registered it through the OBD, tested all five buttons including the remote start.
He asked about the dealer option. I told him they'd want the car towed in, probably keep it overnight, and charge way more than what we just did in his parking spot. Plus he'd miss work tomorrow.
The old protein-shake key still starts the car if you hold it right against the button. He keeps it wrapped in a baggie now. Emergency backup with a story.
