2023 Honda HR-V
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2023 Honda HR-V Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already on the west side of Oxnard when the call came in from Carriage Square. A college senior, his only key, dropped on concrete in his apartment carport. The fob housing had cracked clean across the back. The key still turned the car over once after the drop, but by the time he called me it was showing a key-not-detected warning on the dash and wouldn't start.

He'd already called the dealer. They told him he'd need to tow it in and quoted him a number that made him pause long enough to start searching for other options. That's when he found me.

I pulled into his carport, picked the door using my decoding tool on the lock cylinder, and read the cuts right off it so the new blade would match without needing the original key at all. Then I got the new fob registered through the OBD port. Total time from pulling in to handing him a working key was right around 40 minutes.

I showed him the cracked housing on the old fob before I left, pointed out where the battery contact had shifted when it hit the ground. That's usually where these go wrong after a drop. He now keeps the new key on a separate ring from anything heavy.

He saved a good chunk over the dealer quote and never left his parking spot.
