Your 2008 Jaguar S-Type uses a smart key with 5 buttons, a CR2032 battery powering the wireless signal, and an emergency blade tucked inside for backup entry when the fob or car battery dies. The KVM module in the car detects this fob through proximity antennas. Without a registered fob, the engine won't start.

Then I moved his working electronics into a fresh housing, replaced the weak CR2032 battery, and verified every button plus push-to-start and Keyless-Go. His fob, FCC ID KR55WK49244, worked exactly as before. I showed him the circuit board so he could see the guts were perfectly fine.
He paid about 415 for the shell swap and battery. The dealer wanted 732 to replace the entire fob when only the plastic was cracked.
