Got a call on a Saturday evening from a guy over in Moranda Park in Port Hueneme. He had a 2001 Jaguar S-Type sitting in his driveway, one key left, and the flip mechanism had snapped clean off inside the fob housing. The blade was stuck halfway out and the plastic pivot post had crumbled. He tried superglue. Twice.
He told me the dealer quoted him a wait of over a week for the part and he would need to have the car towed in for programming on top of that. He just needed to get to work Monday.
I pulled up, checked the original fob. The remote internals were actually fine, the 4C80 Texas Crypto transponder chip was reading correctly, and the CR2032 tested strong. The problem was purely mechanical: the pivot pin in the 1X43-15K601-AB housing had worn through after twenty-plus years of pocket carry.
I cut a new FO21 Tibbe blade on my Condor, transferred the transponder chip into a fresh flip shell, and programmed the remote frequency to match the receiver module. Then I made him a full spare while I was there because running a single key on a car this old is asking for exactly this situation again.
Both keys flipped, locked, unlocked, and started clean. He sat in the driver seat and cycled the ignition three times like he was testing me. Fair enough.
