I was out in South Surfside on a Tuesday afternoon when I got the call. A woman parked near the water had been using the emergency blade in her 2004 Jaguar S-Type because the fob had stopped talking to the car. At some point, the blade tip snapped off inside the door lock. The cylinder hadn't been used in years and it just grabbed the blade and held it.
Another locksmith she called said the lock would need to be drilled. New cylinder, new keys, and a number that made her stomach drop. She found my number and asked for a second opinion before she agreed to that.
When I got there, the fob body was still intact. The electronics were fine. The blade was the only casualty. I used a broken key extractor set and worked the fragment out of the door cylinder without touching the wafers inside. No scratches, no damage to the lock. Then I decoded the lock while I had it accessible, cut a fresh blade to match, and rebuilt the whole unit into a new fob housing since the original casing had cracked during the break.
When I handed it back, she folded the blade in and out a couple of times like she was making sure it was real. Both the fob buttons and the blade worked exactly as they should.
