A young nurse at the buy-here-pay-here lot in Ventura had that exact story. Her only key to her 2016 Jeep Renegade cracked at the Fobik housing and the blade snapped when she tried to force it. The fob half was in one hand and the blade was stuck in the ignition. Zero working keys and a vehicle she needed for hospital shifts.
I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the broken Fobik housing since the chip was still intact even though the shell was destroyed. That saved time because I didn't need a full all-keys-lost procedure. I extracted the broken blade from the ignition, decoded the lock, and cut two fresh keys. Her Fobik, FCC ID M3N-40821302, was a 4-button remote that I rebuilt into new shells with the cloned chip. I showed her the chip from the cracked fob so she could see it was still good.
She went from zero keys to two in about 40 minutes. Total was around 95. A full AKL without the broken pieces would have cost more, and the dealer wanted 200 regardless. If you still have the broken pieces, bring them. The chip data inside a cracked Fobik is usually salvageable, which makes the job faster and cheaper.
