2019 Jeep Renegade
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How much more does all-keys-lost cost compared to just adding a spare?

More involved, so yes, it costs more. When you have a working fob, adding a spare is a shorter programming job. When every key is gone, the security system has to be accessed at a deeper level, old key records erased, and new fobs enrolled from scratch. That process takes longer and requires more from the equipment. The practical advice: if you have one working fob right now, get a spare made while you still have it.

Q: Do aftermarket fobs work on the 2019 Renegade, or do I need to buy from the dealer?

Aftermarket fobs can work, but the details matter. The replacement fob needs to match the factory FCC ID on the original fob for this vehicle. If that lines up, a properly matched aftermarket unit paired with professional programming will function the same as a dealer-sourced fob. Lock, unlock, the other buttons, all of it. Where people get burned is buying whatever looks close on a marketplace listing without confirming the match, then finding out the programming won't take.

Q: My Renegade shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is new. What's going on?

New battery doesn't always mean clean fix. A few things can cause a key-not-detected warning even after a fresh CR2032 goes in. First, check how the battery is seated. The contacts in the fob housing are small and can get slightly bent if the old battery was pried out instead of popped. If a contact isn't making solid connection, the new cell reads as dead.

Q: Can I program a second Renegade smart fob myself at home?

No. The 2019 Renegade smart key system does not have a DIY add-a-key sequence you can run from the driver's seat. There's no ignition-turn pattern, no button combination, nothing like that. Programming a fob to this vehicle requires professional diagnostic equipment connected through the OBD port. If you bought a fob online expecting to pair it yourself, you'll still need a locksmith or dealer to finish the job.

2019 Jeep Renegade Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in the College Area of Ventura, I got a call from a guy who'd been working a concert load-out at a venue lot. Band roadie, long night, and somewhere between the stage and the parking lot his fob vanished. Zero keys. Push-to-start Renegade sitting completely dark.

Two of his crew had already told him smart key all-keys-lost was dealer-only. One of them looked it up on his phone and read him a forum post saying the same thing. So he almost called for a tow before he called me.

I drove to the lot. The all-keys-lost process on the 2019 Renegade smart key system is not a quick add-a-key job. With no working fob present, the vehicle's security system needs to be fully accessed through the OBD port, the existing key data wiped, and new fob credentials written from scratch. I pulled a backup of the immobilizer data first, then ran the all-keys-lost sequence with my programmer. The replacement fob is the four-button proximity unit matching the factory spec for this car.

His Renegade started in that parking lot while the crew was still breaking down the stage rig next to us. He stared at the start button for a second like he didn't quite believe it worked.

The dealer would have required a tow, an appointment, and days of waiting. We were done in under an hour, on-site, for a fraction of what that route would have cost him. Smart key all-keys-lost isn't dealer-only. It's tool-dependent, and the tools came to him.

Jeep Renegade Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to replace a smart key for the 2019 Jeep Renegade?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer. The dealer is going to quote you for the fob, cutting the emergency blade insert, programming time, and whatever their shop fee looks like that day. A mobile locksmith comes to you, handles the whole job on-site, and the total is still way less than the dealer path.
