I got a call from a guy parked at a dirt pullout near the hills outside Ventura, somewhere off the road that runs above The Avenue. He'd been hiking, came back to his 2015 Jeep Renegade, and the fob was gone. Best guess: bounced out of his pocket somewhere on the trail. I decoded his door lock cylinder mechanically, reading the wafer positions without touching anything destructively. That gave me the cut data I needed. I cut a new blade on site, built the fob, and ran the all-keys-lost sequence through the OBD port to enroll the new key and wipe the lost one out of the system. The whole job was done at the pullout, on the dirt, before he would have even made it to a dealer's service lane.

His original lock cylinder still works exactly as it did before I got there. Nothing was drilled, nothing was replaced, nothing looks different on the car. He drove out of that pullout the same way he drove in, just with a key this time.

The dealer comparison barely came up. He already knew.
