Alfa Romeo Stelvio Key: Mobile vs Dealership
Two options, one clear winner
2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A resident over at Coronado Shores called on a Saturday morning. She had two fobs for her 2019 Stelvio. One had stopped working entirely a few weeks back, and then the second one started acting up. Door handles were not waking on approach, the cabin was throwing a key-not-detected warning, and she had already replaced the battery in the second fob herself. Still flaky.
She mentioned she had called the dealer first. They told her to bring it in, leave it, and they would get to it when they could. That was the whole answer. No timeline, no real diagnosis over the phone, just drop it off and wait.
I got to the parking structure, popped the non-working fob open first. The battery she had installed was seated correctly, but the contact clip on the positive side had a slight outward bow, barely visible, enough to break the circuit under vibration. I brought the clip back in, cleaned both contacts, reseated the cell. That fob woke right back up on its own, no programming needed.
The second fob, the one that had stopped weeks before, was a different story. It would not register at all, and the vehicle had no memory of it. I pulled out the diagnostic equipment, confirmed one key in the system, enrolled the second fob fresh. Ran all five buttons, checked proximity range walking both sides of the car, tested the door handles on every door, and confirmed the start button responded from inside without fishing the fob out of her bag.
Total time was under forty minutes. She asked what the dealer would have charged. I told her to call me next time before she even calls them.
