2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Casa de Oro, a Stelvio owner called me on a Tuesday afternoon. She had walked out of the house, pressed the door handle, and nothing happened. The car just sat there. Push-button start would not respond either. A key-not-detected warning on the dash, and that was it.
She had already done the obvious thing and swapped the CR2032 before she called me. Fresh battery, same result.
I got to her in Spring Valley, pulled out the fob, and the new battery was seated fine. The issue was not the battery at all. The fob had taken some real damage at some point, the kind that does not always show on the outside. Internal antenna was the problem. The fob was transmitting, but barely, not enough for the vehicle to pick it up reliably. At arm's length it would sometimes catch. In her pocket, nothing.
I cut a new fob on site, ran the programming sequence through the OBD port to register it to her vehicle's immobilizer, and transferred the emergency blade over so she understood how to use it if she ever needed it. Tested every button, tested the start, walked the perimeter of the car checking range.
She was back in business in under 45 minutes from the time she called. The dealer had quoted her three to four business days and she would have needed a tow just to get the car there. That comparison was her words, not mine. I just did the job.
