I got the call on a Sunday morning from a guy in Bressi Ranch. His 2023 Stelvio had been sitting in his driveway since the night before. He'd walked out, hit the door handle, nothing. Fob in his pocket, fresh battery he'd just put in, and the car acted like he didn't exist.

When I pulled up, first thing I did was pop the fob. He'd done the battery swap right, CR2032 seated correctly, no corrosion on the contacts. But when I ran diagnostics through the OBD port, the fob was showing as a known key that had dropped its enrollment state. It happens. Not common, but it happens on this generation, and it's not something you can fix with a button sequence or an ignition trick.
Re-enrolled the fob on site, verified all five buttons, walked the vehicle to confirm the proximity detection was reading at a normal distance from all door handles, confirmed the push-button start was responding without hesitation. The whole job was done before he finished his coffee.
He mentioned the dealer couldn't see him until Tuesday and wanted him to tow it in. He drove to breakfast instead.
