2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Buena Creek last spring, I got a call from a guy whose 2021 Stelvio had been sitting in his driveway for two days. He had one key, and it had stopped being recognized by the car. The cluster was showing a key-not-detected warning every time he approached. He had already swapped the CR2032 himself, which was the right instinct, but the problem didn't move.
When I got there, I popped the fob open on the hood and the new battery was seated fine. What I found was a hairline crack along the back edge of the shell, just far enough that the board had gotten some moisture exposure. The contacts were lightly oxidized. Not dead, just unhappy.
I cleaned the contacts, got a fresh fob shell onto the board, confirmed the battery was seated with actual spring tension, and then ran the OBD registration because any time you open a smart key on this system, it is worth confirming the pairing is solid rather than assuming. The car saw it on the first try.
He asked how long the dealer had quoted him. I told him I had no idea, but he mentioned they were talking about a week out for an appointment and a number that made him wince. He had the car back in about forty minutes from when I pulled up.
That is the job most of the time. It is not dramatic. It is just knowing what to look at.
