A woman was staying somewhere in Downtown Lemon Grove, passing through for work, and her only key to her 2004 Audi Allroad had been acting up for weeks. Then it quit entirely after she swapped the battery herself.

She had bought a replacement cell and pressed it in, but the housing had been opened before and the contacts were already a little off. The new battery finished the job. I opened it up and the positive contact had a small fold in it, just enough to lose the connection under the battery. I straightened it, cleaned both contact points, and seated a fresh CR2032 correctly.

That got the remote functions back, but the immobilizer had already logged a loss of key communication, so I connected through the OBD port and re-registered the key to the vehicle. The whole job, from opening my van to packing up, was under forty minutes.

She did not need a new key. She needed someone who showed up and actually looked at the problem instead of ordering parts for three days.
