A graphic design intern at street parking near her apartment in Imperial Beach had exactly that story. Her only key to her 2012 Fiat 500 cracked at the pivot and the blade snapped off when she tried to open the door. The fob housing was in one hand and the blade was stuck in the lock. Zero working keys.
I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the cracked fob housing, since the chip was still intact inside the broken shell. That saved time because I didn't need a full all-keys-lost procedure. I extracted the blade, decoded the lock, and built two new flip keys. Her key uses FCC ID LTQF12AM433, a 3-button flip remote that I rebuilt into fresh shells with the cloned chip data. I showed her the chip from the cracked key so she could see it was still good, and explained why having two keys would save her money next time.
She went from zero working keys to two in about 40 minutes. Total was around $185. A full AKL without salvageable chip data would have cost more, and the dealer wanted $395 either way.
