2017 Kia Niro Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Millenia in Chula Vista, a home health aide flagged me down through a text. She had a 2017 Niro and the fob shell had cracked along the seam. The blade was working loose inside the housing and the rubber on two of the four buttons had worn down to almost nothing. She said the dealer told her she needed a full replacement key. She had already called them.
What the dealer did not mention was that the electronics inside her fob were perfectly fine. The transponder chip, the circuit board, the battery contact, all of it reading clean. She was being quoted for a whole new key when what she actually needed was a new shell and a fresh blade cut to her vehicle.
I met her in her driveway with replacement shells and my cutting equipment. I transferred her existing electronics into the new housing, verified every one of the four buttons, walked the doors, checked the push-button start, and confirmed range from a normal distance. Cut a new blade to match her vehicle, seated it in the new shell, done.
She mentioned the dealer quote on the way out the door. I told her the chip and board inside that cracked fob were the expensive parts, and hers were working fine. Replacing a working circuit just because the plastic cracked around it is not a repair. It is a sale.
