2022 Kia Telluride Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy parked in the Kearny Mesa area, near one of the commercial strips off Convoy. He had a 2022 Kia Telluride and a problem with a story behind it.
He had already paid another locksmith to cut and program a replacement smart key. The new fob unlocked the doors, the dash recognized it, and the engine cranked. Then it died. Every time. Two seconds of run time, then nothing. The other locksmith told him the immobilizer module was failing and walked away from the job.
That description told me exactly what had happened before I even got there. When a key gets partially registered but the immobilizer sequence does not complete properly, the car will accept the start request, fire the engine briefly, then shut it down. The module is not bad. The key data just did not get written to permanent memory. It is a process failure, not a parts failure.
I connected through the OBD port and looked at what was actually stored. The previous key attempt had left incomplete data in there. I cleared it, ran the full immobilizer registration from scratch with the correct security sequence and PIN authorization, and watched it confirm the write. Then I had him start the car and let it idle. Thirty seconds. A minute. It sat there running like nothing had ever been wrong.
He showed me the receipt from the first guy. I did not say much about it. I just showed him the confirmation screen on my tool and let that do the talking.
The dealer quote he had gotten earlier was significant. He had already paid once for a job that did not get finished. Getting it right the second time, for less than the dealer wanted for the first time, was the only part that mattered to him at that point.
