2025 Kia Telluride Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
There's a parking lot near Santee Lakes that a warehouse crew uses for shift changes, and I've gotten two calls from that general area in the past year. This one was a little different.
The guy had already had a key made. Not by me. A few weeks before he called, he went to someone else, got a new fob programmed, and drove off happy. Then it started doing something strange. Morning starts were fine. By the end of his shift, push-to-start would either hesitate or throw a key-not-detected warning outright. He assumed the car had a gremlin somewhere, maybe a battery drain or an antenna issue. He'd been putting off a dealer visit because of the time it would take.
When I got there and pulled up the fob's programming status through my diagnostic equipment, the pairing looked surface-level correct. It had passed the initial registration. But the transponder chip inside the fob shell was not the right generation for this vehicle's security system. On these newer Kia platforms, that kind of mismatch can slip through the first few drive cycles and then fail progressively as the vehicle runs deeper verification in the background. It's not immediate. It's slow, and that's what makes it confusing to diagnose without the right tools.
I confirmed the mismatch, programmed a new fob with the correct hardware, and ran it through its checks on site. I also swapped the CR2450 while I had it open because the existing one was already reading low and there was no reason to leave a weak cell in a freshly sorted fob.
He texted me two weeks later just to say it hadn't missed once. That was the whole message. That's enough.
