2024 Mazda CX-90 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy up near the CSUSM Area in San Marcos. He had found me through YouTube, watched a Mazda smart key job, and saved my number before he ever needed it. When his 2024 CX-90 started throwing a key-not-detected warning and the range dropped to almost nothing, he already knew the call to make.
He had already tried a new battery. It helped for about two days, then went back to the same behavior. That pattern usually tells me something before I even touch the car.
When I got there, I asked him which battery he had put in. He pulled out the packaging. CR2032. Close, but not right for this fob. The CR2025 is thinner, and putting in a CR2032 can seat unevenly against the contacts, which gives you intermittent connection rather than a clean failure. Sometimes it works fine. Sometimes it does exactly what his did.
I swapped in the correct CR2025, reseated the contacts, and closed the fob properly. Then I walked every function: lock, unlock, and the remaining buttons, checked door handle response, and ran three start cycles. All of it clean.
He did not need a new fob. He did not need programming. He needed the right battery seated correctly. That took less time than the drive over. The dealer route would have meant towing, a wait, and a bill that had nothing to do with the actual problem. He was back to normal before the parking lot got hot.
