Out in Rancho Santa Fe, near The Bridges, I got a call from someone who hadn't driven the Aurora in a while. The car had been sitting. They found the fob in a drawer, the key blade was there too, but the remote did nothing and they weren't sure if the car would even start cleanly.

I opened the fob on the hood. The CR2032 inside was original, probably 1997 original, and the voltage was basically nothing. The contact plate had a film on it from years of sitting. Swapped the battery, cleaned the contacts, and ran the relearn procedure to pair the remote back to the car's security system. Tested all four buttons. Locks, trunk, everything cycling the way it should.
