1997 Oldsmobile Aurora
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: What is the FCC ID for the 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora key fob, and why does it matter?

The factory FCC ID is printed on the back of the fob. It's the federal registration number for that specific wireless transmitter, and it tells you exactly which replacement unit to source. If someone grabs a fob that looks close but carries a different FCC ID, the frequency or signal encoding may be off and the remote simply won't pair to the car.

Q: Are you licensed and insured to work on vehicle security systems in California?

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, fully insured, and bonded. We're also BBB A+ rated and enrolled in Google's Guaranteed program. You can verify all of that independently online before you ever call us out.

Q: The engine starts but immediately stalls on my 1997 Aurora. Could the key be causing that?

That specific symptom, starts and immediately dies, points to the immobilizer not recognizing the transponder in your key. The Aurora's security system will crank the engine but cut fuel almost instantly if it doesn't see a valid signal from the key. It's different from a remote problem. The fob buttons and the transponder are separate systems on this car, so your remote can work perfectly while the transponder side has a fault.

Q: I found a used fob for my 1997 Aurora online. Can I just program it myself?

The 1997 Aurora does have an onboard remote relearn procedure, so a DIY pairing is possible if the replacement fob matches the factory FCC ID for this vehicle. That said, a used fob is a gamble. If it was previously programmed to another car and wasn't properly cleared, or if it's a different FCC ID than what your Aurora expects, you'll go through the relearn steps and get nothing. Verify the FCC ID before you buy.

1997 Oldsmobile Aurora Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Rancho Santa Fe, near The Bridges, I got a call from someone who hadn't driven the Aurora in a while. The car had been sitting. They found the fob in a drawer, the key blade was there too, but the remote did nothing and they weren't sure if the car would even start cleanly.

When I pulled up, the key turned fine and the engine held. Good sign. The remote was the only real problem.

I opened the fob on the hood. The CR2032 inside was original, probably 1997 original, and the voltage was basically nothing. The contact plate had a film on it from years of sitting. Swapped the battery, cleaned the contacts, and ran the relearn procedure to pair the remote back to the car's security system. Tested all four buttons. Locks, trunk, everything cycling the way it should.

The owner mentioned they'd called the dealer first. The dealer wanted the car brought in and mentioned ordering parts. They were looking at days, not hours.

I was there and done in under an hour. The Aurora drove out the same afternoon it called me in.

Oldsmobile Aurora Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What battery does the 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora key fob use?▼

CR2032. It's the same flat, round cell you'll find at any pharmacy or hardware store. On a fob this age, the battery has often been in there for years, and the contact plate can oxidize even if the battery still shows some voltage. When I replace one, I clean the contacts and seat the new cell properly before testing range. A half-seated CR2032 reads as dead even when it's brand new.
