2002 Oldsmobile Aurora Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Granite Hills called on a Saturday morning. His 2002 Aurora was sitting in the driveway, and his only key had snapped off at the bow, right where the plastic head meets the blade. The blade was still in the ignition cylinder.

That part always adds a step. I carry blade extractors, so I got it out without pulling the cylinder. The lock itself was worn but still functional, which is pretty typical on a vehicle this age. Twenty-plus years of use and the tumblers are just tired.

I decoded what was left of the original blade, cut a new key, then programmed the transponder chip to the vehicle's immobilizer on site. Turned the key, engine started and stayed running. That last part matters with these systems because a key that cranks but stalls out immediately is a sign the chip did not take, and you have to go back in and sort it out. This one held on the first try.

He had asked earlier in the week about going to the dealer and was told they would need to order the key and he would have to come back for a second appointment. He called me instead. Handled it in one trip, on a Saturday, in his driveway, for a fraction of what they wanted.
