1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: I don't have the original key. How do you figure out what key to cut for my 1999 Cutlass?

Two ways. If you have a working key, we duplicate it directly. If the key is lost, we decode the cut from the lock cylinder itself using a decoder tool, or we can look up the key code on record for your vehicle. Either path gets us to a working blade without needing your old key in hand.

Q: I lost all my keys to my 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Can you still make one?

Yes, and this is a common call. All-keys-lost on a mechanical key vehicle like the 1999 Cutlass is one of the cleaner versions of this problem. We come to the car, decode the lock cylinder or pull the key code through other means, and cut a fresh key on site. No tow required, no dealer visit, no OBD programming step. The car starts with a correctly cut blade, period.

Q: Can a locksmith copy my 1999 Cutlass key, or do I have to go to a dealer or hardware store?

A mobile locksmith is actually the most convenient option here. Hardware stores can sometimes cut a basic key by pattern, but accuracy matters on an ignition cylinder that has seen some age. A locksmith cuts to spec and can verify the key works before leaving. The dealer can do it too, but you would need to bring the car in and wait.

Q: My 1999 Cutlass ignition is worn and the key is getting hard to turn. Does that affect getting a replacement cut?

It can. A worn ignition cylinder sometimes accepts a freshly cut key better than the beat-up original, but if the cylinder itself is the problem, a new key will not fix that. When I decode the lock and cut a replacement, I can usually tell whether the cylinder is the culprit or if it was just a bad key all along. Worth knowing before you decide what to do next.

1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Harbison Canyon, a guy called me about his 1999 Cutlass sitting in his driveway. He had lost his only key somewhere in the house and turned the place upside down looking for it. At some point he gave up and started calling around.

He had already been quoted a wait at the dealer, plus the cost of towing since the car wouldn't move without a key. He was not thrilled about either of those things.

I pulled up with my decoder tools, worked the door lock cylinder to read the cut, and had a new blade cut on site. Turned it in the ignition, started right up. The whole thing took maybe twenty minutes from the time I got out of my van.

He kept asking if there was something else I needed to do, like hook up a laptop or something. There was not. The car needed a cut key, it got a cut key, and that was the end of it. No tow, no dealer, no waiting around.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer visit would have run him, and he didn't have to move the car an inch to make it happen.

Oldsmobile Cutlass Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Does the 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass key fob use a battery I need to keep on hand?▼

There is no fob for this vehicle. The 1999 Cutlass uses a mechanical key only. No remote, no battery to replace, no fob to lose. Your replacement is a metal key cut to fit your ignition and door locks. That is it.
