2017 Porsche Panamera Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Rancho Del Oro, I got a call from a woman who owns a 2017 Porsche Panamera. She needed a spare key made - not an emergency backup she'd forget in a junk drawer, but a working daily driver key she'd actually use. Her first question before I even got there was whether what I made would be "Porsche quality."
That question deserves a real answer, not a sales pitch.
I carry aftermarket smart key blanks for these specifically because I've tested them across enough jobs to know which ones behave and which ones don't. The concern with some blanks isn't the remote buttons - those tend to work fine on anything halfway decent. The concern is passive entry, that hands-free detection when you're walking to the car. A blank that fails that test is a blank I don't stock.
I decoded the door lock mechanically to get the cut data for the emergency blade, then connected through the OBD port to register the new fob to her car's security system. The whole thing took about 45 minutes at her place. When it was done, I walked her through every function: lock, unlock, the passive detection range on both front door handles, and the backup blade just so she knew where it was.
She wasn't wowed. She just nodded and said, "Good, that's what I expected." That's the right reaction. The key worked the way a key is supposed to work.
The dealer comparison came up at the end almost as an aside. She'd already looked up what the dealership would charge for an OEM key with their labor and wait time. What I charged was a fraction of that, and she didn't have to leave Oceanside.
