2007 Saturn VUE
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How much more does all-keys-lost cost versus adding a spare?

More. Always more. Adding a spare while you have a working key is a quick programming job. All-keys-lost means the immobilizer has no reference point -- everything has to be reset and new keys registered from zero. On the VUE that adds time and a more involved process. The price gap between "adding a spare" and "starting from scratch" is real and it is not small.

Q: Are aftermarket remotes cheaper and do they actually work?

Sometimes cheaper upfront, sometimes a headache. The 2007 VUE remote has a specific frequency and the transponder chip in the key blade has to match what the immobilizer expects. Aftermarket shells vary -- some are fine, some use components that test weak or fail within a few months. I've also seen blanks that looked correct but wouldn't hold a program. We use blanks verified for this vehicle. The remote gets tested through every button before I leave.

Q: My VUE starts fine but the remote range is really short now -- like I have to be right next to the car. What's going on?

Short range on these almost always points to one of three things: a weak battery that reads present but can't sustain the transmit burst, a contact inside the fob that lost tension and is making inconsistent connection, or a cracked circuit board from a drop. CR2032 cells can measure okay on a basic meter and still fall flat the moment the remote tries to fire a signal.

Q: Can I program a second remote for my 2007 VUE myself at home?

There is an onboard programming sequence that works on some GM vehicles from this era when you already have a working programmed key. Whether it works on your specific VUE depends on how the vehicle security system is configured and whether a prior remote was already registered. It is not a guaranteed self-service process on this model, and getting a step wrong can lock out the sequence entirely. Easiest path: call me.

2007 Saturn VUE Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman over in Alpine Village called on a weekday afternoon. She said her VUE remote "just stopped working." Wouldn't lock, wouldn't unlock, panic button was dead. But the car started fine every time.

She'd already swapped in a fresh CR2032 from a blister pack at the gas station. Still nothing.

I pulled up and the first thing I did was open the fob on my tailgate. Battery looked right at a glance, but the contact on the positive side had a slight outward bow, barely noticeable. The gas station battery was slightly thinner than spec and the contact wasn't getting a solid bite. I reset the contact, dropped in a known-good CR2032 from my own stock, and the remote lit right up. Locked and unlocked the VUE from across the parking lot.

That was it. No programming. No new fob. A two-minute contact fix and a better battery.

She laughed a little and said she'd been driving over to unlock the doors by hand for three days. I told her it happens constantly -- the fob looks fine, the battery swap looks right, but the contact tension is what actually moves current and people don't think to check it.

She didn't need the dealer. She didn't need a new remote. She just needed someone to show up in Alpine Village and actually look at the thing.

Saturn VUE Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to replace my 2007 Saturn VUE key?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer or go to a big-box hardware store. The VUE uses a remote with a transponder key, so replacement has two parts: cutting the blade to your vehicle and programming both the transponder and the remote. Dealers split that into parts plus labor plus a service appointment. We do it in one stop, on site in Alpine, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
